Restoring CDOT Bridge Abutment Drainage System
The primary goal of the project was to restore effective drainage to the steel sheet piling bridge abutment during the bridge replacement process. The chosen drainage solution was the JET Filter Drainage System, known for its durability and efficiency. This system was aimed at preventing water-related issues that could undermine the bridge’s structural integrity.
GEOCAL, in collaboration with CDOT, designed and executed the installation of the JET Filter Drainage System, designed to suit the challenging bridge abutment configuration. The selected JET Filter 6” open-end ASTM Steel Housing offered durability and corrosion resistance, while the Mirafi® Filter-weave FW 300 media provided efficient water management and soil protection.
The successful implementation of the JET Filter Drainage System significantly improved the project’s success and the longevity of the infrastructure. It ensured that the new bridges are resilient against corrosion and erosion challenges. The project, which achieved its primary goal of restoring abutment drainage, now stands as an example of how innovative drainage solutions can enhance the durability and structural integrity of bridges. This collaboration between CDOT, GEOCAL, and Ames Construction serves as a valuable model for tackling complex drainage issues in bridge projects, underlining the importance of proactive infrastructure maintenance and innovative engineering solutions.
