Weep holes are a cost, effective solution to relieve pressure from behind earth retaining structures. Sometimes, weep holes are specified in a design. At times, they are unplanned and installed after construction is finished.
The traditional weep hole consists of 3 parts:
Sometimes weep holes are connected to drainage pipes laid behind the wall.
Unfortunately, overtime weep holes typically develop two major failure points:
In order to repair or maintain traditional weep holes, excavation behind the wall is required which is very expensive, time consuming and sometimes is not even possible.
A new approach to solving the “weep hole” failures is to place the geotextile filter fabric in a removable, cleanable filter cartridge. The cartridge is inserted into the weep hole from the front of the wall. By allowing access to the fabric from the front of the wall, the fabric can be easily maintained or replaced.
