Maintainable weep hole filters will extend the life of any new or existing structure
Earth retaining structures, such as seawalls, bulkheads, bridge abutments, and retaining walls, require proper drainage. Inevitably, hydrostatic water pressure will build up behind the wall. Without proper drainage, the wall will fail over time. Maintainable weep hole filters will extend the life of any new or existing structure.
When they fail, they are very costly to fix as they require excavation
Traditional drainage systems drainage pipes and erosion control fabrics. Installers bury these systems behind the wall, under the soil. Once buried, the drainage capacity begins to decrease as the fabric begins to clog and fail. Buried drainage systems are expensive to install. Most importantly, when they fail, they are very costly to fix as they require excavation!

Expensive excavation is the only way to fix traditional drainage systems when they fail
Traditional weep holes are an inexpensive drainage solution. Often, they are installed to relieve the hydrostatic water pressure from behind the wall. Traditional weep holes clog, block drainage or fail. This causes soil loss which lead to sinkholes. Ultimately, expensive excavation is the only way to fix traditional drainage systems when they fail.
JET Filter System has chosen TenCate’s Mirafi line of geotextiles
Our maintainable weep hole filters contain a geotextile filter fabric in a removable, cleanable cartridge. The filters are easy to clean or replace if they ever clog or fail.
We carry products for concrete walls, sheet pile walls including steel, vinyl, aluminum, composite and wooden bulkheads. Our products with 316 stainless steel are designed for seawalls and bulkheads in marine environments (marinas, ports, canals) and other corrosive environments.
JET Filter System has chosen TenCate’s Mirafi line of geotextiles. We have found that the FW300 series is appropriate for most applications. Our experience shows us that the FW300 provides a great balance between the three functions needed in a maintainable geotextile. They are:
- 1. Drainage;
- 2. Erosion Control; and,
- 3. Service time between maintenance.
For specific customers and applications, our products can use other Mirafi Woven products such as FW402, FW404, and FW700. For simplicity, all JET Filter documentation references the FW300 as standard. Click here for the FW300 Specifications.
JET Filter components are Made in the USA and compliant with the Buy American Clause.
